After being piloted in South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland in 2008, Light the Night events will be held at over 20 locations across Australia in 2009. Enjoy a fun atmosphere with entertainment and a chance to hear inspirational stories from people touched by blood cancers. Then as night falls, we will walk, carrying our illuminated balloons around St. David’s Park for everyone to see.
Light the Night is aimed at patients and families touched by blood cancers, supporters of the Leukaemia Foundation, medical professionals, local businesses and the local community. Anyone can take part in Light the Night, as the walk has no fitness requirements.
Corporate organisations are encouraged to be seen in a good light by taking part in Light the Night. This event can build morale and teamwork for staff while raising funds for a worthy charity making a difference to our local community.
Funds raised through Light the Night will support the work of the brightest researchers into the causes, cures and treatments of blood cancer. The Leukaemia Foundation will also use funds to provide free support services to patients and families. This includes accommodation, transport to and from treatment centres, education programmes and information.

Every hour of every day someone in Australia is diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or related blood disorder. Every two hours someone dies from one of these diseases.
Blood cancer can develop in anyone, of any age, at any time. These diseases have few identified risk factors and often no real warning, therefore the impact of diagnosis is vast and usually immediate for both patients and their families. This means making drastic lifestyle changes in order to commence treatment. In addition to this, patients have to deal with the emotional turmoil of diagnosis and treatment combined with financial strain.
During these tough times, the Leukaemia Foundation can step in to support the patients and their families so they can concentrate on the most important thing – getting well.
The Leukaemia Foundation is the only national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the care and cure of patients living with blood cancers. The Leukaemia Foundation relies on the generosity of individuals and businesses and raises much needed funds through events such as Light the Night in order to support patients and families.
Whether you are a cancer survivor, supporting someone who is battling cancer or have lost a loved one, please join in and help Light the Night.
